Since 1981 Laurie Kanyer has worked in the field of family life education. She was the Founder of Passport to Parenting through Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital.

From 1998 to 2010, Kanyer served as the director of Growing Capable Parents, a program designed to provide tools for pregnant and parenting women living in poverty, coping with chemical dependency, managing emotional distress, surviving domestic violence and/or living with learning challenges.

Kanyer is a member of the National Council on Family Relations and served for many years on its Certification Committee of professionals all over the country.

She was acknowledged by Dr. Nicholas Cummingham of Columbis University to the United Nations for Inspiring Warm-heartedness for her work with mothers and babies.
